1. Introduction

JIEF: Journal of Islamic Educational Futures (JIEF) recognizes the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in supporting scholarly research, academic writing, and scientific communication. AI-powered tools, including large language models (LLMs) and generative AI applications, can assist researchers in language improvement, literature exploration, data analysis, coding, visualization, and manuscript preparation. JIEF supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI technologies to enhance research quality while maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, transparency, and accountability.

AI technologies are intended to complement—not replace—the intellectual contributions of researchers. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, interpretation, validity, and integrity of all content submitted to the journal, regardless of whether AI tools were used during the research or manuscript preparation process.

2. Permitted Use of AI

Authors may use AI tools for legitimate scholarly purposes, including but not limited to:

• Language editing, grammar checking, proofreading, and translation.
• Improving writing clarity, readability, and manuscript organization.
• Literature discovery and research assistance.
• Reference management and citation formatting.
• Coding assistance, statistical analysis, data processing, and data visualization.
• Brainstorming research ideas and improving manuscript structure.
• Similarity or plagiarism checking using recognized software.

The use of AI should always be supervised by the authors, who are responsible for verifying the accuracy and appropriateness of all AI-generated outputs.

3. Prohibited Use of AI

The following uses of AI are strictly prohibited:

• Listing AI systems or software as authors or co-authors.
• Generating fabricated, manipulated, or misleading data, images, tables, citations, references, or research findings.
• Producing substantial portions of a manuscript without meaningful human intellectual contribution.
• Using AI to manipulate the peer-review process, reviewer identities, editorial correspondence, or publication records.
• Employing AI in ways that violate research ethics, publication ethics, copyright, confidentiality, privacy, or applicable laws.

Any misuse of AI that compromises scientific integrity or misrepresents scholarly contributions is considered publication misconduct.

4. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors who use AI technologies during manuscript preparation must disclose their use in an appropriate section of the manuscript, such as the Acknowledgments, Methods, or a separate Declaration of AI Use. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot), the version if available, and explain how the tool contributed to the preparation of the manuscript.

Routine use of AI solely for grammar correction, spelling, or language polishing generally does not require a detailed explanation; however, transparency is strongly encouraged whenever AI has contributed to the intellectual development or preparation of the manuscript.

5. Authorship and Responsibility

Artificial Intelligence tools cannot qualify for authorship because they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work, approve the final manuscript, disclose conflicts of interest, or meet internationally recognized authorship criteria.

All authors remain fully responsible for:

• The originality, accuracy, and reliability of the manuscript.
• Verification and validation of AI-generated outputs.
• Proper citation and acknowledgment of all sources.
• Compliance with research ethics, publication ethics, and copyright regulations.
• Any errors, omissions, ethical concerns, or legal consequences arising from the use of AI.

6. Editorial Assessment

All manuscripts submitted to JIEF are evaluated according to the same editorial standards regardless of whether AI tools were used. Every submission undergoes an initial editorial screening followed by a double-blind peer review process. Editors may request additional information regarding the use of AI whenever necessary.

The editorial office may also use AI-assisted technologies to support editorial tasks such as plagiarism detection, language assessment, technical screening, and reference checking. However, all editorial evaluations, peer-review decisions, and publication decisions are made exclusively by human editors and reviewers.

7. Ethical Principles

The use of AI must comply with the ethical principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), international scholarly publishing standards, and the publication policies of JIEF: Journal of Islamic Educational Futures. Authors must ensure that AI-generated content does not introduce plagiarism, copyright infringement, fabricated information, false citations, confidential data disclosure, discriminatory bias, or any other practice that could undermine the credibility of scientific research.

Failure to disclose significant AI use or misuse of AI technologies may constitute research and publication misconduct and may result in manuscript rejection, publication correction, article retraction, or other editorial actions in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics.

8. Policy Review

As Artificial Intelligence technologies continue to evolve rapidly, JIEF reserves the right to revise and update this policy periodically to reflect technological developments, international publishing standards, and recommendations issued by organizations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Crossref, DOAJ, and other recognized scholarly publishing bodies.
