1. Introduction

The Journal of Islamic Pedagogical Innovation (JIPI) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in supporting scholarly research and academic writing. AI-powered tools, including large language models (LLMs) and generative AI applications, may assist authors in idea generation, language improvement, literature exploration, data analysis, coding assistance, and manuscript preparation. JIPI encourages the responsible and ethical use of AI to enhance research quality while preserving the principles of academic integrity, transparency, originality, and accountability.

AI tools are intended to support—not replace—the intellectual contributions of researchers. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, interpretation, and integrity of all content submitted to the journal, regardless of whether AI tools were used during manuscript preparation.

2. Permitted Use of AI

Authors may use AI tools for the following purposes:

• Language editing, grammar checking, and proofreading.
• Improving writing clarity and readability.
• Organizing references and formatting citations.
• Literature discovery and research assistance.
• Data processing, coding assistance, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
• Plagiarism or similarity checking using recognized software.
• Brainstorming research ideas or improving manuscript structure.

3. Prohibited Use of AI

The following uses of AI are not permitted:

• Listing AI tools as authors or co-authors.
• Generating fabricated, manipulated, or misleading data, images, citations, or research findings.
• Producing substantial portions of the manuscript without meaningful human intellectual contribution.
• Using AI to falsify peer-review reports, reviewer identities, or editorial correspondence.
• Employing AI in any manner that violates publication ethics, copyright, confidentiality, or research integrity.

4. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors who use AI tools during manuscript preparation must disclose their use in an appropriate section of the manuscript (e.g., Acknowledgments or a separate Declaration of AI Use). The disclosure should identify the AI tool used, its version (if available), and describe how it contributed to the preparation of the manuscript.

The use of AI for routine language editing or grammar correction alone generally does not require extensive explanation; however, transparency is strongly encouraged.

5. Authorship and Responsibility

Artificial Intelligence tools cannot qualify for authorship because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, or accountability of scholarly work.

All authors remain fully responsible for:

• The accuracy and reliability of the manuscript.
• Verification of AI-generated outputs.
• Proper citation of all sources.
• Compliance with research ethics and publication ethics.
• Any errors, omissions, or ethical issues arising from the use of AI.

6. Editorial Assessment

All manuscripts submitted to JIPI, whether AI-assisted or not, are evaluated according to the same editorial and double-blind peer-review standards. Editors may request clarification regarding the use of AI if necessary and may reject manuscripts where AI has been used inappropriately or where undisclosed AI use compromises scientific integrity.

The editorial team may also employ AI-assisted tools to support editorial screening, such as plagiarism detection, language assessment, or technical checks. Final editorial decisions, however, are always made by human editors.

7. Ethical Principles

The use of AI must comply with the ethical standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the publication policies of JIPI. Authors must ensure that AI-generated content does not infringe copyright, disclose confidential information, introduce bias, fabricate evidence, or otherwise compromise the credibility of scholarly research.

Failure to disclose significant AI use or misuse of AI technologies may constitute publication misconduct and may result in manuscript rejection, article correction, retraction, or other editorial actions in accordance with JIPI's Publication Ethics.

8. Policy Review

JIPI recognizes that AI technologies continue to evolve rapidly. Accordingly, this policy may be revised periodically to reflect advances in AI, international publishing standards, and recommendations from organizations such as COPE, Crossref, and other scholarly publishing bodies.
